Top Places To Visit & Hiking Trails In Hungary

The Danube Bend

The Danube Bend

Located just north of Budapest and close to the historic city of Visegrád, the Danube bend is a natural curve in the river Danube, the main waterway running through Hungary. Believed to have been created by volcanic activity millions of years ago, this awe-inspiring natural wonder has drawn adventurers and nature lovers for centuries. The region surrounding the bend is covered in woodland and gently rolling hills, giving visitors incredible views of the river below. On our Hungary Walking Holiday, we’ll have the opportunity to get up close and personal with this beautiful landscape.

Budapest

Budapest

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Danube’, Budapest is one of the most magnificent cities in Europe and the capital of Hungary. Originally two cities located on opposite sides of the Danube, Buda and Pest, Budapest was unified in 1873. On our Hungary Walking Holiday, we’ll have the opportunity to learn more about the city’s fascinating history and explore the highlights with a panoramic city tour. Led by a local, expert guide, we’ll take in the glorious architecture of Hungary’s parliament building, the beautiful Crown Bridge and the gothic castle of Buda.

The Pilis Mountains

The Pilis Mountains

A popular mountainous region in the Transdanubian Mountains, popular with skiers during winter, and walkers and hikers during the remainder of the year. Our walks through the mountains will end in the small picturesque village of Pilisszentkereszt where we can experience the typical Hungarian way of life.

Visegrad

Visegrad

Visegrad is a small town located north of Budapest in the Danube Bend. One of Northern Hungary’s oldest cities, the historic city of Visegrad was the royal seat of Hungary until 1325. Visegrad is famous for the remains of the Early Renaissance summer palace of King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and the town’s medieval citadel. Because of the town’s close proximity to many great hiking trails, Visegrad is a popular spot among nature lovers. On our holidays to Hungary, we’ll be based in the town of Visegrad, allowing us easy access to some of the area’s most beautiful outdoor spots.

Hungary Walking Holidays & Tours

Still a mainly rural country, Hungary is Europe at its most enchanting. Steeped in tradition and boasting a unique language, history, culture and architecture, visiting Hungary can feel like exploring farther afield. Plus, with impressive mountains, dense forest and the sparkling Danube river, it’s no wonder Hungary is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking for something a little different. On our Hungary Walking Holiday, we’ll explore some of the most incredible landscapes and geological features of the Visegrád Hills and Danube Bend. We’ll also enjoy some time to learn more about the region’s past with a day trip to visit Budapest and the city’s surrounding hills.
